Terms of use
1. What MatchRight is
MatchRight (the "Service") is a workspace for organising one residency application cycle: which programs you are applying to, what each asks for, who your referees are, what you have written, and when things are due. It is operated by an individual (the "operator"), not by a company, and not by any body involved in the match.
The Service is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or connected to the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS), the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC), CANPREPP, any provincial college, any university or any residency program. "CaRMS" and "CANPREPP" are the marks of their respective owners and are used here only to refer to those organisations and their processes.
2. Who may use it
You must be at least 18 years old and applying, or preparing to apply, to a Canadian residency match. One person per account. You are responsible for keeping your password private and for everything done while signed in to your account.
3. The information in the Service is not authoritative
The program catalogue, document lists, reference counts, word limits, deadlines, selection criteria, event listings and every other program-specific fact in the Service are copied automatically from publicly posted pages, chiefly the CaRMS program descriptions and the CANPREPP calendar, and then normalised by software. That process can and does produce errors:
- a program may have changed its requirements after the last copy was taken;
- a document, form or condition may have been mis-categorised, merged with another, or dropped;
- a word limit, reference count, or deadline may have been misread;
- a program marked "under revision" has no requirements shown at all, which does not mean it has none;
- the Service's own summaries — "custom CV required", "3 references", "ready" — are interpretations, not the program's words.
Before you rely on any requirement or date, check it yourself on the program's official CaRMS description and in CaRMS Online. The Service tells you it has done its best; it never tells you that you are done.
4. Not advice
Nothing in the Service — including generated emails, letter prompts, suggested programs, coverage scores, rank-list tools and any reading of a program's selection criteria — is career, academic, legal or professional advice. It is a way of laying out your own information. Decisions about where to apply, whom to ask for a reference, what to write and how to rank are yours.
Feedback from your own AI. "AI feedback" lets you get feedback on your writing from an AI service you choose, such as ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. The operator does not run, control or check these services, and their feedback is not the operator's. It can be wrong, generic or invented, so check every suggestion. Your text goes to that service under its own terms and privacy policy, and any API use is billed to your own account by the provider. Your application must be your own work: follow what CaRMS and each program say about using AI, and do not include anything you may not share, such as patient details. The operator accepts no responsibility for that feedback, for what follows from using it, or for what the provider does with your text.
5. Your content
Everything you enter — letters, notes, referee details, experiences, interview notes — is yours. You grant the operator only the licence needed to store it, back it up, and show it back to you. The operator does not read it, use it to train anything, or share it, except as described in the privacy policy.
Where you enter information about other people — referees, supervisors, program contacts — you are responsible for having a proper basis to record it. Keep it to what you need for your application.
You must not upload anything unlawful, anything you do not have the right to store, or anything intended to harm the Service or other users. You must not use the Service to send unsolicited messages. Generated emails to referees are drafts for you to send from your own account. The one message the Service sends for you is a review invitation, to a person you name, when you share a letter with them; invite only people you know and who would expect to hear from you. Invitations are limited per day, and the operator may suspend sharing on an account that misuses it.
6. Availability, backups and data loss
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". It may be down, slow, or changed without notice. Daily backups are taken on a best-effort basis but are not guaranteed. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose — the Settings page lets you download everything in one file at any time.
7. No warranty
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and uninterrupted or error-free operation.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable to you for any loss or damage of any kind arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service — including without limitation a missed deadline, an unassigned document, a requirement that was wrong or missing, a reference that was not submitted, a lost draft, an unsuccessful application or match outcome, or any indirect, incidental, consequential, special or punitive damages — whether in contract, tort (including negligence) or otherwise, even if advised of the possibility. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid to use the Service, which is nothing.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions; in those, the exclusions apply to the extent permitted.
9. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from Settings. Deletion removes your account record, your working file, every backup of it and every active session, and cannot be undone. The operator may suspend or delete an account that breaches these terms or that has been inactive for more than eighteen months after the end of a match cycle, after reasonable notice to the email on the account.
10. Changes
These terms may change. When they change in a way that matters you will be asked to accept the new version the next time you sign in, and the date at the top of this page will move. Continued use after accepting is agreement to the new terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, and any dispute will be heard in the courts of that jurisdiction.
